Gården fremstår i dag trelænget, men frem til 1920 var der en fjerde længe i syd  med en portåbning ud mod Mørdrupvej. Allerede i en skifteopgørelse 1788 omtales ejendommen som firelænget, da i sin helhed opført i bindingsværk. Omsætningen af gårdens bygninger i grundmur er efter alt at dømme foregået omkring 1875, men specielt den østlige lavere længe viser endnu spor af den oprindelige bindingsværkskonstruktion. 1898 gennemførtes en større ombygning af vestlængen, og fra denne lejlighed stammer en stolpestump, hvori der er indhugget årstallene 1788 og 1898, og som stadig er i behold på ejendommen. Kjærsgaard blev 1808 overdraget fra [[Krogerup]] Gods som selveje for den hidtidige fæster Ole Jørgensen. Landbrugsdriften på gården blev indstillet o. 1916, men allerede en halv snes år forinden var store dele af gårdens jorder beliggende øst for landsbyen blevet overtaget af et entreprenørfirma fra Helsingør med henblik på efterfølgende udstykning. 1924 blev der ved vestlængens gavl mod Mørdrupvej opført en tilbygning</ins>, <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">som i en længere årrække kom til at huse &#039;&#039;&#039;</ins>Mørdrup <ins style="font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Købmandshandel&#039;&#039;&#039;, ligesom Rørtang og Omegns Sygekasse (senere Sygekassen for Espergærde og Omegn) i perioden 1920-33 havde kontor på gården. 1967 opførtes en ny købmandsbutik på den modsatte side af Mørdrupvej, hvorefter forretningen på Kjærsgaard nedlagdes. Under gårdens stuehus findes to ældre kampestenskældre, hvor man i den ene stadig kan se, hvorledes den oprindelig har været indrettet med plads til sulekar, tønder etc. Selve navnet Kjærsgaard kan ikke umiddelbart følges længere tilbage end 1916, tidligere optræder ejendommen bl.a. under navnet ”Dejligheden”.
